The rivalry between the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers is always an intense one. Things were the same on Friday.
Stefan Matteau gave the Devils an early 1-0. Power plays were huge for Philadelphia early in this contest though. Wayne Simmons tied it at 1 after 1 period. Claude Giroux scored off another wrist shot power play goal.
That gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead. Philadelphia had a 1 goal lead after two periods.
Kyle Palmieri took a wrist shot that tied the game at 2. Philadelphia would regain the lead before Mike Cammalleri tied it at 3 on a power-play goal.
The game went to overtime. It was 3 on 3 for both teams in overtime. Philadelphia grabbed a takeaway from the New Jersey Devils. Matt Read shot the game-winning goal off a breakaway. New Jersey had nine giveaways while the Flyers only had two giveaways.
The Devils were lucky to come away with a point. The Flyers had more shots on goal and scored on more power plays. Winning the face-off battle also helped in this intense that came right down to the end.
