Bruins Stomp Penguins!

Boston went into Consol Energy Center and embarrassed the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 in downtown Pittsburgh. It was a Hockey Night in Pittsburgh. A hockey night for Boston anyway.

Boston led 2-0 and took a 3-0 lead before the Pittsburgh Penguins scored. Center Frank Vatrano scored a hat trick and was the biggest reason why the Bruins defeated Pittsburgh 6-2. The rookie forward is making a strong case for the Calder Memorial Trophy that goes to the top player in the NHL with Connor McDavid injured.

Patrice Bergeron also had two goals for the Bruins. The Penguins were 0/5 on the power play against a deadly penalty killing unit. If you get five power play chances you have to score at least once. That's just basic probability when it comes to having an extra man on the ice.

Jeff Zatkoff filled in for Marc-Andre Fleury. That may have been why schooling the Pittsburgh Penguins was so easy.

Tampa Bay Lightning  @  Washington Capitals

Capitals Shock Lightning

Tampa Bay led 1-0 after one period thanks to Alex Killorn. Andrej Sustr made it a 2-0 game early in the second period. Victor Hedman dished his fifteenth assist of the season to Steven Stamkos who scored his twelvth goal of the year for the Lightning.

That put Tampa Bay up 3-0. Washington pulled goalie Braden Holtby in his early struggles. Holtby had twenty-one wins this season and was on pace to break Martin Brodeur's fourty-eight win season from 2006-2007.

Washington went on a run after the Lightning gained a 3-0 lead. Their only goal in the second period was a power play goal by left winger Alex Ovechkin. Right winger T.J. Oshie and defenseman John Carlson had assists on Ovechkin's goal. Oshie recorded his eigth assist on the year before Carlson got his nineteenth assist on they year.

T.J. Oshie had an unassisted goal to make it a one goal game in the third period. Ovechkin scored another power play goal to tie it at three a few minutes after that. Washington had a third power play goal where both T.J. Oshie and Alex Ovechkin dished it to Marcus Johansson at center. Johansson put Washington up 4-3 before Oshie scored an empty net goal to seal Tampa Bay's fate.

Oshie and Ovechkin goth had two goals, two assists, and four points. If Oshie and Ovechkin can both light it up like this it won't matter how effective or crappy the goaltenders are.

Vancouver Cannucks  @  Detroit Red Wings

Vancouver Edges the Wings

Vancouver took a 2-0 lead thanks to Jared McCann and Sven Baertschi. The Canucks led 2-1 after two periods following their 2-0 lead.

Detroit tied it at 2 thanks to Pavel Datsyuk at center. Radim Vrbata gave Vancouver a 3-2 lead in the third period, but Datsyuk would dish an assist to Henrik Zetterberg.

Vancouver and Detroit went to a penalty shootout after both teams failed to score in the NHL's brand new 3 on 3 overtime in 2015-2016. The penalty shootout was intense. It went seven rounds before Linden Vey gave Vancouver the win. The former Utica Comet in the AHL where most NHL players play minor league hockey really came up tonight
